SANTA ANA, Calif. — For its service-oriented culture and efforts to recognize employees for good work, Orange County Teachers Federal Credit Union was recently named one of the 50 Best Small & Medium Companies to Work for in America.

The credit union received the award at the Society for Human Resource Management expo in Las Vegas in June.

Among the accomplishments the $7.2 billion credit union was recognized for is providing employees with a van pool, complimentary flu shots and free registration in a bike ride for charity. OCTFCU also provides $25 gift certificates when employees get married or have a baby. Employees who come up with innovative ideas that reduce the credit union's expenses "without sacrificing service," can earn 10% of the projected first year's cost savings, up to $5,000. Those who graduate with an associate's degree or higher are honored at an annual breakfast.

This is the second time OCTFCU has received the award, according to Norma Stein, vice president of human resources.
