GREENSBORO, N.C. — CUNA's "Little Guy" advertising campaign will be getting a special "run" for its money in North Carolina in September as part of an unusual fundraising project combining CU runners and a grueling long-distance race across two states.

CU participation in the Blue Ridge Relay Race, a 208-mile continuous race through the mountains of North Carolina and Virginia, is being dubbed "Team Little Guy" with the North Carolina Credit Union League taking the lead in fielding a 12-member team to run what is described as the "extreme" running event slated Sept. 7-8.

The league hopes to raise $50,000 in CU sponsorships on behalf of the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation

"Though Team Little Guy is full now under race rules, we hope that maybe next year we can get teams from across the South and elsewhere to sponsor runners and put up the credit union banner," explained Eric Gelly, executive vice president of the league and "Team Little Guy" relay captain.

Gelly, who runs five miles a day and competes in runs across the state, will be joined on the course by John Radebaugh, president/CEO of the league and by 10 other "Team Little Guy" members comprising fellow runner/employees from CUs across the state.

Keeping track of progress on "Team Little Guy" sponsorships and practice runs is a special league blog (http://teamlittleguy.wordpress.com/) which in less than two weeks has already received "a phenomenal 1,100 hits," a spokesman said Monday.
