Keys Federal Credit Union, Key West, Fla., recently presented a financial fitness seminar to members of local military. Naval Air Station Key West and the Fleet & Family Support Center sponsored the session held at Trumbo Palms. President/CEO of the CU, John Dolan-Heitlinger, facilitated the seminar for military personnel on how to use credit wisely and the importance of starting a savings plan early, no matter how small. Keys is the only local financial institution selected to join the efforts of the Naval Air Station Key West and the National Military Saves campaign, to encourage healthy financial habits for those who serve the community and the country.
Kohler Credit Union, Kohler, Wis., recently sent two of its employees, Chue Xiong Lee and Julissa Fiallos, to conduct financial literacy presentations in Hmong and Spanish for students at Sheboygan South High School as part of the school's English Language Learners (ELL) program. Because the presenters were from students' own cultures, they were able to make a personal connection while
learning about money management and receiving financial assistance, to the school's ELL Program.

Centra Credit Union, Jeffersonville, Ind., recently held the grand opening of its Jeffersonville Branch, its 20th location. As part of the festivities, Nan Morrow, the credit union's vice president corporate development, presented $2,500 to Barbara Anderson, executive director of Haven House. Haven House provides services to the homeless in Jeffersonville and Southern Indiana. The organization operates 26 transitional housing units, and served more than 2,500 homeless individuals during 2006.
Tobyhanna Federal Credit Union, Scranton, Pa., participated in the 13th annual Norman G. Fulkerson Memorial Bowling Tournament in part of the Wyoming Valley Chapter of Credit Unions. The tournament was held at Chacko's Family Bowling Center in Wilkes-Barre. Around 100 people participated in the event for a day of fun and to help support the credit unions movement.
Afena Federal Credit Union, Marion, Ind., recently held a toilet paper collection drive for The Salvation Army Pantry of Grand County. The credit union collected four big plastic bags full of toilet paper, one item that is constantly in demand at the pantry. All the toilet paper was donated by Afena's members and staff.
Synergy One Federal Credit Union, Manassas, Va., along with Heltzel-Synergy One Mortgage Company hosted the Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event. Over 75 local business people and Chamber members attended the event at the new Synergy One FCU Sudley Branch. Mary Clarke Catering provided food as attendees networked and promoted their businesses.
Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union, Lowell, Mass., donated 10 computers to Franco American School. The school recently lost its computer lab to an electrical fire. Approximately 30 computers were destroyed in the blaze leaving the school without a computer lab.
Employees and members of Global Credit Union, Spokane, Wash., recently donated more than 360 new children's books to the Page Ahead, Children's Literacy Program. The program provides children of primarily low-income families with new books to keep. Page Ahead enhances the relationship between parent and child and the relationship between child and books. This is the second year Global has participated.
Southern Security Federal Credit Union, Memphis, Tenn., donated $6,000 to Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center. The credit union's staff raised money by selling over 2,900 bags of pecan candies during the holidays. All 10 locations throughout the Memphis/Mid-South area participated in the Credit Unions for Kids campaign. Le Bonheur is part of the Children's Miracle Network and serves children throughout West Tennessee, East Arkansas and North Mississippi.
First Financial Federal Credit Union, Lutherville, Md., recently provided an Adopt-A-Classroom donation to a class at Logan Elementary School. As part of the Adopt-A-Classroom program, 10 elementary schools in Baltimore County and Baltimore City received $500. Through the program, 100% of the donation is given to the teacher to purchase critical resources and materials to enhance the students' learning experiences within the classroom. Funding for this grant was made possible through First Financial's Visa credit card program and the KidsFirst Fund.
