SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — March of the Penguins, Happy Feet , it seems like the rest of the world is learning what Mountain America Credit Union Public Relations Officer Jodi Jones has known all along–penguins rock!
Who knew that a report on penguins in elementary school would in a round about way lead to Jones having a penguin collection of over 500?
"It is funny when I did the report I just thought penguins were cool and I'd see some pictures but it wasn't anything that really stood out," said Jones. "It really all began when my best friend who shared the same birthday as me and we grew up together, moved away in sixth grade and she gave me a tiny wood penguin she'd carved and painted herself. That was my first one."

From there Jones says she would pick up a few more that caught her eye and slowly over the years friends and family just started giving her penguins especially for Christmas and birthdays.
"Even when they were traveling they'd pick up a penguin that was unique to the area," said Jones. "They are so cute that my collection just keeps growing and I actually keep most of it in storage. I have a curio cabinet full of smaller glass ones, penguin salt and pepper shakers and one of my favorites–a penguin nativity scene."
She admits she thoroughly enjoyed both movies and the collection includes not just stuffed animals but also backpacks, T-shirts, paintings, sheets, blankets–including one her mother made for her when she was 15, and jewelry. If there is a penguin on it Jones either has it or is looking to add it to her collection.
