WASHINGTON -- The Coalition For Credit Union Charter Options, the banker-run organization that argues in favor of credit union to bank charter conversions, has charged some credit union leaders with hypocrisy in their stands on the recent Wings merger.

In letters to the leadership of American Association of Credit Union League and the Maryland and District of Columbia Credit Union Association, and the Michigan Credit Union League, the Coalition noted that when it came to the proposed Wings/Continental merger the association took positions regarding board authority and leadership which is at odds with their position on those topics when the subject is charter change conversions.

"In keeping with the principal of board authority, we would now expect the MDDCCUA not only to avoid interfering with any future conversion attempt by a Maryland or District of Columbia credit union--either directly or as a financier of other protagonists--but to condemn publicly such interference by any third party," the Coalition wrote.
