Those of us who know Bob Walls well are stunned that the NewJersey Credit Union League Board of Directors released him as theirleague president. Having worked with Bob at the Delaware League forover 12 years, I can't imagine what motivated them to make such aradical business decision. Bob is the cream of the crop when itcomes to league presidents. No one understands that better than Ido. I started at the DCUL 22 years ago in 1985. Eight years later,Bob became the sixth DCUL league president for whom I had worked.Bob came to us with an impressive credit union background. As alongtime member, he was the chairman of the board of his creditunion and a league director. Having just retired as a captain ofthe Delaware State Police, he was a perfect solution for us at atime when we needed direction and steady leadership. He took astruggling league with few services, inconsistent management and aless than stellar image and turned us into a vital, well-run andwell-respected organization. Never one to rest on his laurels, Bobwas constantly planning for our future growth and longevity. Bobput the Delaware Credit Union League on the map. In addition toachieving 100% affiliation, he was one of the original committeemembers to develop and secure a suitable property for Credit UnionHouse in Washington, D.C. and served as chairman of its board. Hewas one of the founding fathers and chairman of the Mid-AtlanticRegional Service Corporation–a cooperative venture which nowencompasses five states–(he brought New Jersey into it), and priorto accepting the NJCUL position, was also a CUNA director. Time andspace do not permit me to list all his accomplishments. Suffice itto say, Bob Walls is a tremendous asset to any organization inwhich he takes part. I feel sorry for the New Jersey credit unions. They lost a talented leader, a great visionary and a good man. JaneL. Bailey Executive Vice President Delaware Credit Union League NewCastle, Del.
