EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Continental Federal Credit Union today expressed its appreciation to its members and its regulator in “successfully defending itself against” Wings Financial FCU.
“We are thrilled that Wings Financial has withdrawn its merger proposal and ended its attempt to take over our credit union,” said Tom Glatt, president/CEO of Continental FCU. “We cannot thank our members, our volunteers and the NCUA enough for their support during the last month as we battled to keep our credit union independent.”
Glatt continued, “In working to protect our independence, our Board and our management have been fulfilling our responsibility to serve the long-term interests of our members. Our members are proud of their independent credit union, and want us to stay that way. Through thousands of emails, phone calls, pledges of support and personal visits to our branches, members have used strong language to voice their choice for independence. We take great pride in the fact that our members are very happy with their credit union, and have no interest in losing it.”
