ATLANTA -- With the recent marking of the 60th anniversary of baseball legend Jackie Robinson's debut in the major league, many may not know that a credit union veteran once played on the sports icon's team.

Frank Kellert, who died Nov. 19, 1976, once served as a CUES chairman and manager of Wilson CU in Oklahoma City. Kellert played 122 major league games from 1952 to 1956 for the St. Louis Cardinals, Orioles, Dodgers and Cubs. He also appeared in three games in the 1955 World Series with the Brooklyn Dodgers--the same team as Robinson. Robinson played his first major league game with the Dodgers on April 15, 1947.

As part of the 60th anniversary of Robinson's debut, newspapers across the country have been running a photo of him sliding into home base with Kellert at bat looking on during the 1955 World Series' first game. Yankees catcher Yogi Berra is also in the photo. The Dodgers would go on to win that World Series and several more and Robinson, the first African-American to play in the major league, would go down in history as one of the greatest baseball players of all time.

Kellert served at CUES from 1968 to 1975.
