APPLE VALLEY, Minn. — There have been reports that many are signing the Wings Financial online petition with fake names and bogus information thinking by doing so it will make them eligible to receive $200.

A college professor told Credit Union Times he has learned that college students around the country are "hitting the site just for fun" with names like Michael Jackson, O.J. Simpson, Bart Simpson, Adolph Hitler, Anna Nicole Smith and Britney Spears. Wings Financial has previously said it has a means to verify who are actual Continental members, but has not provided specific details as to how and has yet to release the number of people that have signed the petition. The CU has said all along that the number of signatures collected is "in line with our expectations."

"For the college students to be getting in on this there must be some e-mail floating around with some misleading info or challenge," the professor said. "I pity the person who has to verify this list."
