SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Corporate credit unions still do cooperate. Proof of that is the collaboration of four corporates to sponsor an event to benefit their membership.

Central Corporate Credit Union, Mid-Atlantic Corporate Federal Credit Union, Corporate Central Credit Union and Corporate One Federal Credit Union are jointly sponsoring the Big Ten Credit Union Conference, hosted this year by Notre Dame Federal Credit Union, in South Bend, Indiana. The annual conference, which takes place this year on June 7-9, marks the first time that these four corporates have teamed up for an event.

The Big Ten Credit Union Conference is an association of 12 credit unions which serve the universities of the Big Ten (Athletic) Conference.

At this year's BTCUC, the kick-off speaker is Rodney E. Hood, vice chairman of NCUA. Other featured speakers include Jack Brick of Brick & Associates, Inc., and Fabio Biasella from the Raddon Financial Group.

CenCorp is pleased to co-sponsor an educational opportunity for credit unions with these other corporates, says Bill Walby, CEO of CenCorp. "We hope this leads to other opportunities to collaborate in the future."

Ed Fox from Mid-Atlantic Corporate agrees. "A lot of corporates talk about how economies of scale through mergers and acquisitions will help credit unions. Working together on a project like this, though a relatively small project, shows that there's another model out there–one of cooperation and collaboration with other corporates. I believe that model can be successful as well."

Credit Unions included in the BTCUC are: Purdue Employees Federal Credit Union, Indiana University Employees Federal Credit Union, University of Michigan Credit Union, Michigan State University Federal Credit Union, Penn State Federal Credit Union, University of Minnesota Federal Credit Union, First Northern Credit Union (serving Northwestern University), University of Illinois Employees Credit Union, University of Iowa Community Credit Union, Credit Union of Ohio (serving The Ohio State University), University of Wisconsin Credit Union, and Notre Dame Federal Credit Union.

Although the University of Notre Dame is not a member of the Big Ten Conference, Notre Dame FCU, which is independent of the university, participates in the Big Ten Credit Union Conference because its mission, strategies, and community commitment are inline with those of the Big Ten University Credit Unions, according to a release announcing the event.
