WASHINGTON -- Congressman Paul Kanjorski (D-Pa.) is reportedly recovering well from his triple by-pass surgery and returning to work with the rest of Congress this week so credit union lobbyists are hopeful that the CURIA co-sponsorship will grow this week.

"He will be no longer on medical leave so we're glad to see him back. We're told he's doing well. We wish him well," CUNA Vice President of Legislative Affairs Dean Sagar said. He added that he expects co-sponsors to be formally filed this week, which could not be done while he was out. CUNA previously estimated that co-sponsorship should at least double in the short-term from the current 12, including Kanjorski. The bill had 125 co-sponsors last Congress.

Things are slow moving in the Senate, as it was two Congresses ago in the House, according to Sagar. "At this point we have still not tried to talk to them about the entire bill," he said. "I think there are some individuals that are interested and we're just sort of seeding the field so to speak, just talking to them about it without trying to push for immediate introduction."
