WASHINGTON — Fortunately storm clouds held off the rain forecast for April 1 so runners of the 35th Annual Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10-Mile Race had only their stamina to contend with.

The top male and female runners in the 2007 Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10-Mile Run were Teyba Erkesso, 24, of Ethiopia setting a new women's world record with a finish time of 51:44; and Tadesse Tola, 19, also of Ethiopia with a time of 46:01. Credit unions raised approximately $828,000 through the race and a silent auction for Children's Miracle Network.

Washington, D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty did his city proud with a time of 1:08:47. He was ahead of a lot of the credit union-affiliated runners, including CUNA Political Program Specialist Allen Chew, who achieved a time of 1:20:31 and Credit Union House Manager Jill Jarman at 1:20:28 with NAFCU Director of Planning, Programming, and Special Programs Joe Boyle, 61, on their heels at 1:25:29. NAFCU President/CEO Fred Becker also completed the 10-mile run in a time of 1:40:51, running with the person who got credit unions behind the race–former Lafayette Federal Credit Union CEO Bill Brooks (1:40:52). They were joined by CMN's own Joe Dearborn at 1:40:50. Becker's nephew, Wesley, blew past them at 1:19:26. CUNA President/CEO Dan Mica finished the associated 5K run/walk in 40:50. Some of NCUA's staff formed a racing team, the top three runners of which came in at a combined time of 4:28:09. Members of the team included Associate Regional Director of Programs (Region II) Scott Hunt, Staff Attorney Regina Metz, Director of the Division of Planning, Economic Analysis, and Web Services James "TaB" Patrick, Employee Relations Specialist Kathleen Heagney. Additionally, former chief of staff to Chairman JoAnn Johnson, Holly Herman, completed the race in 1:51:44. –[email protected]
