BEAVERTON, Ore. — Oregon's state Capitol was smothered in creditunion supporters last month.

About 220 credit union supporters visited the state seat ofgovernment March 20 in an effort to educate their legislators ofcredit unions' functions and their contributions to theircommunities. They were also easily identified bearing pins withthis year's theme of “Commitment to our Community.”

“No one can tell the story of the credit union difference andour commitment to community better than local credit unionadvocates,” Credit Union Association of Oregon Senior VicePresident of Governmental Affairs & Public Relations PamelaLeavitt said. “Oregon legislators appreciated the opportunity todiscuss our legislative agenda with local representatives fromtheir district.”

The state league had booths set up with information forlegislators, staff, and visitors to peruse. It also included awelcome address by Oregon House and Senate leadership and meetingswere held between credit unions and more than 90% of the state'slegislators. The event was capped with a reception peppered withstate legislators and their staffs.
