BEAVERTON, Ore. — Oregon's state Capitol was smothered in credit union supporters last month.

About 220 credit union supporters visited the state seat of government March 20 in an effort to educate their legislators of credit unions' functions and their contributions to their communities. They were also easily identified bearing pins with this year's theme of “Commitment to our Community.”

“No one can tell the story of the credit union difference and our commitment to community better than local credit union advocates,” Credit Union Association of Oregon Senior Vice President of Governmental Affairs & Public Relations Pamela Leavitt said. “Oregon legislators appreciated the opportunity to discuss our legislative agenda with local representatives from their district.”

The state league had booths set up with information for legislators, staff, and visitors to peruse. It also included a welcome address by Oregon House and Senate leadership and meetings were held between credit unions and more than 90% of the state's legislators. The event was capped with a reception peppered with state legislators and their staffs.
