SHREWSBURY, N.J. — The Wings Financial FCU/Continental FCU hostile takeover attempt is causing many credit union leaders to wonder if this is the start of a new trend.

Wings, despite being rejected three times by the Continental board, is still attempting to merge with Continental by asking the members to sign a petition that would overrule the board's decision not to consider the merger proposal. It is being dubbed the first hostile takeover attempt in credit unions.

Despite the initial outrage by many credit union leaders, other leaders believe such takeovers have a place in the industry, especially in the case of poor performing CUs. What do you think? Will this start a trend?

That is the subject of Credit Union Times latest online voting poll. The question is as follows:

Will Wings FCU's hostile takeover attempt of Continental FCU spur more such attempts?
