Looking back 17 years ago finds Credit Union Times publishing its first issue. Headlines that ran in that issue offer some insights to the history of credit unions.
That issue finds the American Bankers Association proposing a three-part tax test for credit unions to pass to qualify for tax-exemption. While 1990 started out to be a relatively quiet year for federal credit unions, by the middle of the year, NCUA was offering details of its over hauled operating fee schedule.
Also in that issue former Marketing Association of California Chairman Joseph Schroeder made headlines being named the new president/CEO of Point Loma Federal Credit Union. In addition, AARP Credit Union's elimination of its savings account product, including CDs and a Visa card hinted at the closing of the CU for AARP members.
