PURCHASE, N.Y. — Taco Bell, a major fast food chain, has decidedto test using MasterCard's contactless payment product in some ofits stores, the No. 2 card brand said.

Later this year, about 100 stores will begin acceptingMasterCard PayPass, which allows customers with PayPass-enabledcards to pay by tapping their cards on a reader at the checkoutcounter, the card brand said. If the test is successful at thosestores, additional stores will be added throughout 2008, until allof Taco Bell's 1,300 company-owned restaurants are included in thetest, according to a news release from Taco Bell.

Purchases under $25 will not require the customer to sign areceipt. The Taco Bell stores included in the test will continue toaccept traditional magnetic-stripe payment cards.
