SAN DIEGO — North Island Credit Union has breathed new life into its signature mural artwork and renamed it “Island Paradise”.

The artwork now reflects 20 new landmarks and sites from San Diego to Riverside, including Petco Park, the Gaslamp Quarter sign, the Lemon Grove lemon, the Chicano Park murals, the San Diego State University bell tower, the Carlsbad flower fields and the Temecula vineyards.

Created in 1992, the original artwork, known as the “Polymorphous Paradise,” has been used in North Island's advertising and marketing programs.

The new Island Paradise artwork will be incorporated in to the credit union's print, collateral and affinity items over the next few months.

According to North Island Executive Vice President/COO Geri Dillingham, just as the areas served by the credit union have grown, so has the San Diego landscape evolved over the last 15 years. So the credit union asked the original artist David Schweitzer to update his popular artwork to reflect all these changes. “At first glance, the art looks quite similar to the original piece until you start identifying all the changes, including small changes such as the updated trolley design. It's a bit like a 'Where's Waldo' puzzle to find all the enhancements,” said Dillingham.

Members will have the opportunity to spot the changes, as they each will receive a complimentary 28″ x 11″ Island Paradise poster.

The posters are available (one per member) at all North Island branches.
