BestSource Credit Union, Pontiac, Mich., recently won first place in the State of Michigan for the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Recognition Award and also the Louise Herring Award for Philosophy in Action. Awarded by the Michigan Credit Union League, these awards represent commitment to the credit union movement and social giveback. BestSource was honored with the Dora Maxwell Award in recognition of its sponsorship of the Heart of the Hills 10K and 5K race in Bloomfield Hills. The Louise Herring Award recognizes the extraordinary efforts of BestSource to advance financial literacy with members and nonmembers through their financial seminar program. Pacific Transportation Federal Credit Union, Pasadena, Calif., has received the Federal Credit Union of the Year award from NAFCU. The award was presented to the CU in a special ceremony at NAFCU’s Annual Conference. PTFCU was selected from credit unions nationwide for best representing and exemplifying the credit union community in its member services, commitment to continued success and growth, and personal obligation to credit union goals and ideals. Memphis Area Teachers’ Credit Union, Memphis, Tenn., recently had its Director Mattie “M.P.” Carter named to the 2006 list of 50 Memphis Women Who Make A Difference. Carter was nominated by Judy Bell, vice president of administration at the CU. For the past 30 years, Carter has been completely immersed in her work with the community and has served on several boards. Prior to her appointment on MATCU’s board, Carter spent 35 years with the Memphis City Schools. SeaComm Federal Credit Union, Massena, N.Y., was named “Business of the Year” at the recent St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce annual dinner. The CU was cited for its exceptional service to members and tremendous support of the community. For the third year in a row, The Business Review has named Capital Communications Federal Credit Union, Albany, N.Y., one of the Great Places to work in the Capital Region. The award recognizes the company’s achievements in creating a positive work environment that attracts and retains employees through a combination of benefits, working conditions and company culture. The CU was one of 125 companies that entered, and made the top-30 list based on the strength of its employee evaluations.
