ARLINGTON, Va. — NAFCU Services Corporation has partnered with Consumers' CHECKBOOK, a nonprofit organization, to offer members of NAFCU-member credit unions discounted subscriptions to Consumers' CHECKBOOK Magazine and full access to www.checkbook.org.

Consumers' CHECKBOOK reviews local service firms and stores such as auto repair shops, plumbers, dentists, and insurance companies on quality and price; the publication accepts no advertising and is solely supported by subscriptions and individual donations of subscribers. Ratings are based on surveys of CHECKBOOK subscribers and Consumer Reports magazine subscribers, extensive undercover price shopping, reviews of complaint records at consumer agencies and other information. It is published in various areas nationwide.

"The Consumers' CHECKBOOK approach is 100% consistent with credit union philosophy of people helping people," NSC President David C. Frankil said. "Service providers can become top-rated only on the recommendations of other consumers. CHECKBOOK's rigorous standards of quality and value provide a real-world grounding and statistical rigor that other evaluation systems just can't match. We're eager to work with CHECKBOOK to further extend its network throughout the credit union community."
