VERNON HILLS, Ill. — Baxter Credit Union has hired John Bratsakis, former president/CEO of Community Trust Credit Union, as its new senior vice president of business development.
Bratsakis' official start date at $1.2 billion Baxter Credit Union was Jan. 15. Madeline Lipka has been named to succeed him, having recently been promoted from the vice president of operations position. Under Bratsakis' more than nine years of service at the helm, Gurnee, Ill.-based Community Trust grew to more than 16,500 members and from $79 million in assets to $159 million.
Bratsakis said the timing was right to make the transition from heading a community-chartered credit union to a senior position at a select employee group-based CU. He said when he informed Community Trust's board he was leaving, they were "happy with the way things had gone" with developing a presence and relationships in the community.

"The move was to experience things that I probably wouldn't be able to at the CEO spot," Bratsakis said, adding he will be instrumental in continuing to help Baxter grow relationships with its multiple SEGs. "My background as a CEO within the credit union movement, [including] the league and other areas, has helped me bring a well-rounded education on the movement as a whole [to Baxter]."
Bratsakis has worked at several credit unions throughout his career and currently serves as vice chairman of the Illinois Credit Union League and ICUL Service Corp.
