PALM SPRINGS, Calif. — The American Association of Credit Union Leagues is the latest to make a donation to the building of the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial.

The AACUL presented a $15,000 check to Hubert Hoosman, treasurer and funding chair of the African-American Credit Union Coalition at the association's annual meeting here the week of Jan. 15. The AACUC, working with the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation (www.buildthedream.org), has spearheaded a fundraising campaign in the CU movement to raise funds to build the King monument in Washington and an educational center that will feature the civil rights icon's life and accomplishments.

According to Hoosman, who is also president/CEO of $469 million Vantage Credit Union, so far, approximately $238,000 from the CU community has been pledged to help build the memorial and $93,000 has been donated. The AACUC is looking to raise $2 million toward the effort.
