OLYMPIA, Wash. — In what's been described as "a perfect fit", Governor Christine Gregoire selected Washington State Employees Credit Union's Seattle branch to announce her proposal for a new state "rainy day fund."

Touting WSECU's youth financial literacy program "The Vault" as a lead-in, the Governor spoke about the need for Washington lawmakers to save more money for down economic times.

The Vault is a free comprehensive financial literacy program that covers such topics as money management; saving/investing; and identity theft. Positioned as a fun, interactive program that allows students to work collaboratively to learn about money matters The Vault is available on CD or via download from the WSECU Web site at wsecu.org.

According to WSECU Vice President of Public Relations Ann Flannigan it was not only a unique opportunity to show off the credit union and its efforts to educate the next generation of members on how to be wise with money, but it was also a great honor to have the state's most powerful elected politician choose WSECU as the backdrop for her announcement.

Flannigan worked with outreach staff from Gregoire's office to have four students, who had been through some Vault training, appear with the Governor. Sporting special t-shirts with The Vault logo, students were joined by two WSECU employee financial literacy trainers for 15 minutes of one-on-one time with Gov. Gregoire before the press conference to talk up the credit union's financial literacy program and lessons learned by participating.

"We're always trying to spread the word about the good work WSECU and all credit unions are doing in the arena of financial literacy," Flannigan said. "Having the Governor of your state mention your program is about as good as it gets."
