ARLINGTON, Va. — Winds of change swept through NAFCU's workforce over the last year.
David Frankil took over the top spot at NAFCU Services Corporation, NAFCU's for-profit arm, as of July 6. He replaced Keith Nolan. Frankil most recently served as managing director for the Washington Region of Gates and Company, a management consulting and investment banking firm based in Wilmington, Del. Prior to that, he was the CEO and co-founder of Virtual Compliance, Inc., a software firm that he grew to a 30-person organization. Nolan left NSC in May after five years to join Prime Alliance Solutions, Inc., a mortgage CUSO and an NSC Preferred Partner. During his five years at NSC, Nolan increased the number of Preferred Partners from nine to 22. Prior to heading up NSC, Nolan served for 12 years at PSCU Financial Services ending as executive vice president and chief marketing officer. He worked in operations and marketing at Visa USA for seven years prior.
Additionally, after seven years in the No. 2 spot, NAFCU Executive Vice President Diane Swenson has moved on to pursue other opportunities effective Dec. 3. A search has begun for her replacement.

Swenson joined NAFCU in May of 1999. As EVP, she was responsible for the day-to-day operations of NAFCU, including building and resource management, information technology, human resources, strategic planning, finance and accounting. Additionally, she had supervisory responsibility for NAFCU's communications, membership, marketing and education divisions. Before coming to NAFCU, Swenson served as executive vice president of the Washington, D.C.-based American Tort Reform Association, and on the personal staff of former U.S. Senator Larry Pressler (R-S.D.) for five years. NAFCU picked up Senior Vice President of Governmental Relations Dan Berger from America's Community Bankers early this year after 26-year veteran Bill Donovan, who also served as general counsel, left in November 2005. The lobbyist, also known in Washington for his contemporary artwork, has more than 15 years experience in government relations and political campaigns. He has done everything from lobby for the insurance industry to running Congresswoman Katherine Harris' (R-Fla.) first successful congressional campaign and serving as her chief of staff. During Berger's tenure, NAFCU has worked with banking groups, like ACB, on legislation like data security as well as political fundraisers.
NAFCU Director of Political Affairs Murray Chanow left NAFCU as of August 16, after nine years with the trade association, to become director of government affairs for Sprint/Nextel Corp. Chanow was hired by NAFCU in 1997 specifically to lobby on bankruptcy reform.
NAFCU Associate Director of Legislative Affairs Dillon Shea was promoted to fill Chanow's shoes. He will continue his work on the legislative front while now managing NAFCU/PAC. Shea previously worked for Congresswoman Darlene Hooley (D-Ore.) and currently attends law school at George Washington University.
At the same time, NAFCU Associate Director of Legislative Affairs Debbie Kwon-Moore moved over to CUNA's lobbying staff. She started there Oct. 9, as senior legislative representative. She had been with NAFCU four years. Prior to that she had served as senior legislative assistant to Congressman Steve LaTourette (R-Ohio).
NAFCU also added a new lobbyist with Edward Ambrose, who will serve as its new associate director of legislative affairs. He previously worked in the office of Congresswoman Melissa Hart (R-Pa.), a member of the Ways and Means Committee and formerly Financial Services, ultimately as legislative assistant after two years. –[email protected]
