ARLINGTON, Va. — After seven years in the No. 2 spot, NAFCU Executive Vice President Diane Swenson has moved on.
Swenson has left NAFCU to pursue other opportunities. She resigned Friday, Dec. 1, effective Dec. 3.
She indicated to NAFCU that after over seven years as second chair with the organization and over 10 years in the same position with the American Tort Reform Association, she is seeking a new opportunity for the top spot at another trade association or professional society. She thanked NAFCU for the opportunities provided her.

NAFCU President/CEO Fred Becker expressed appreciation for Swenson's contributions to NAFCU as she worked to improve the association's programs and operations. "Diane was an invaluable partner as we worked to improve upon many things here at NAFCU, ranging from employee benefits, our budgeting process, and NAFCU's marketing, membership and education programs," he said. "We wish her well in her future endeavors."
Becker said he is initiating a search to find a replacement and has already started receiving resumes.
Swenson joined NAFCU in May of 1999 as chief of staff and senior vice president and was promoted in September 2000 to executive vice president, responsible for the day-to-day operations of NAFCU. Her responsibilities include building and resource management, information technology, human resources, strategic planning, finance and accounting. Additionally, she had supervisory responsibility for NAFCU's communications, membership, marketing and education divisions.
Before coming to NAFCU, Swenson was executive vice president of the Washington, D.C.-based American Tort Reform Association, where she worked for 12 years. She also previously served on the personal staff of former U.S. Senator Larry Pressler (R-S.D.) for five years in positions of increasing responsibility. Swenson, who is a member of the Minnesota Bar, has a J.D. degree from Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minn., and a B.A. degree from Augustana College, Sioux Falls, S.D.
Swenson's exit marks the third senior staffer at NAFCU to leave in about a year, following former General Counsel Bill Donovan and NAFCU Services Corp. President Keith Nolan. In addition a number of office directors have left, including Gwen Baker (regulatory affairs), Linda Dent (compliance), and Murray Chanow (political affairs). –[email protected]
