ROCHESTER, Minn. — The leadership of the $1.2 billion Think Federal Credit Union appears to have adopted an early media strategy in its proposal to members that they should convert their credit union to a mutual bank. Even though the CU has not yet completed the ballot review process with NCUA, the paper took out a full-page advertisement in the Post-Bulletin, a local paper in Rochester. The advertisement took the form of an open letter to members and appeared to closely mimic the CU's original letter on the topic. It also appeared to attempt to short circuit member opposition to the change by urging members to contact the credit union to address any "misconceptions" that they may have.
The credit union has not yet returned a call about the advertisement.
