FERNDALE, Mich. — Less than two weeks after Armando Cavazos retired from Credit Union ONE, Gary Moody has been named the new president/CEO effective immediately, the credit union said Nov. 7.

Moody, vice president of strategic alliances and chief counsel, had been serving as interim CEO since April while Cavazos was on a leave of absence, the credit union said. Cavazos retired on Oct. 25. Moody is also president of ONE's Financial Services, Inc., the financial planning and insurance subsidiary for the $750 million credit union and president of ONE's Technologies. "As interim CEO, (Moody) led the executive team in an exemplary manner, addressing the many challenges that are inherent in business, while staying focused on bringing value to our member-owners," said William Coyne, CU chairman. "We are delighted Mr. Moody has chosen to accept the position of president and chief executive officer of Credit Union ONE." Moody also was a member of the credit union's board of directors from 2001 to 2004; the last year as its vice chairman. Moody's career in financial services began at the Michigan Financial Institutions Bureau now known as the Office of Financial and Insurance Services. He was appointed by Gov. Engler to serve as a policy advisor to the bureau's commissioner. Moody left the bureau to accept the position of senior director of legislative and regulatory affairs at the Michigan Credit Union League, where he served as chief lobbyist. His role was later expanded to vice president of government and public affairs where he managed the league's government and public relations, media advocacy efforts, and its office of general counsel. Cavazos had been at Credit Union ONE since 1974, starting as a supervisor in the accounting department and becoming CEO in 1986.
