LAS VEGAS — Forest Kraft Federal Credit Union Board Chairman Joe Phillips has recently been honored with the 2006 "Director of the Year" award at CU Conferences' National Directors Roundtable Conference held at Caesars Palace.

Phillips has served as chairman of the Louisiana credit union for eight years. He began his credit union service in 1973 as a member of the credit committee and was elected to the board in 1985.

In presenting the award, CU Conferences Director of Conferences Robert Berra said Phillips "was chosen due to a long list of impressive accomplishments and contributions to his credit union board of directors and his community. He's highly valued both for his skills as a business leader and for his attitude, which sets the tone of the entire credit union."

According to those nominating Phillips, he has led the credit union through two especially difficult periods of transition and has taken the credit union from a basic-service provider to a progressive, full-service one.

Under his leadership, Forest Kraft FCU launched an aggressive program that involved successfully changing processors, merging and moving into new a building within a very short time. With Phillips' guidance, the credit union inaugurated an aggressive branching system and for the first time joined trade organizations such as the state league and NAFCU.

The "Director of the Year" award is given annually at CU Conferences' National Directors Roundtable Conference in Las Vegas, which draws staff and volunteer credit union leaders from throughout the United States for educational sessions, networking and idea exchange.

CU Conferences, headquartered in St. Louis, holds approximately 18 conferences each year dedicated to educating, training and equipping credit union professionals and volunteers to excel in meeting the challenges of the ever-changing movement.
