LAHABRA, Calif. -- American First Credit Union has been presented the 2006 Richard Myles Johnson Foundation Beacon Individual Award for its Credit Union at Schools financial education program.
The award recognizes AFCU Business Development Education Coordinator Michelle Lawrence's efforts to bring financial education to Orange County schools.
American First Credit Union's financial education program teaches students the importance of saving and managing their money. Each week Lawrence makes classroom presentations on financial literacy and teaches students how to write checks and manage a budget, apply for credit and save money for their futures.
"I'm so thankful to receive this award," said Lawrence. "But, the important thing is that I'm able to help these students by giving them the valuable financial tools they will need to become successful adults."
