FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — A marketing and public relations architect for industry projects like the "BizKid$" venture, last February's Super Bowl ad and the award-winning "Tomorrow's Leaders" campaign is moving on to an agency job in Tacoma. Jamie Chase, director of communications and public relations for the league since January 2004, said she is leaving the trade group with regret to become senior advisor for JayRay PR and Advertising. She thanked her friends and colleagues "for letting me be a part of the credit union movement for the last few years doing work that is inspiring."

Chase stressed she is staying on the job through Nov. 3 to finish up work on the CU-themed "BizKid$" Public Broadcasting System show, a project she helped nurture over the last year. "BizKid$" is a syndicated teen show focusing on money management.

Chase, a former PBS staffer, was a key player on a league team that last March brought credit union leaders to an Auburn, Wash., Junior Achievement facility to raise $2.6 million to fund the "BizKid$" show. Scheduled to appear in January, segments of the show have already been filmed in New York, Washington, D.C., and the Seattle studios of PBS. The latest "BizKid$" filming was two weeks ago with NCUA Chairman JoAnn Johnson.

The $2.6 million funding covers the first year of the show, but league foundations along with various trade groups and the World Council of Credit Unions have pledged more to continue the syndicated half-hour telecasts into future years.

Last spring Chase managed to get favorable CU mention through wide coverage of the PBS project on Seattle TV, radio and in print. In January, through her media ties, she also helped promote a league-backed, co-op advocacy ad telecast Feb. 5 during the 2006 Super Bowl pitting the Seattle Seahawks against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The ad, bought at bargain rates, appeared on Seattle's ABC affiliate, but Chase helped plug the idea of CUs matching ad/PR prowess with the likes of McDonald's and Anheuser-Busch by relaying a positive CU message to the public.

On the political side, Chase in July led three congressional aides to Mali, West Africa to study credit unions and micro-credit. The two-week trip, also promoting the Puget Sound economy, was documented by the World Trade Center Goodwill Mission and resulted in a lecture by Chase and U.S. Rep. Adam Smith (D. Wash.) at the University of Washington in Tacoma.

In her new job, she will still be working with CUs on newsletters, annual reports, community outreach, press releases and branch openings.

In a statement, league president/CEO John Annaloro said, "Jamie Chase should do well anywhere. She made smart contributions here and in her new position she may continue to work closely with the credit union system." –[email protected]
