SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — In response to member surveys and feedback, the Southeast Michigan State Employees Federal Credit Union has lowered its non-sufficient funds fee from $23 to $20. The decrease began on Sept. 25 and will continue for a six-month trial period.

"An agreement ended with one of our consultants and it resulted in a huge savings to the credit union," explained Martin Hansen, CEO of SMSE FCU. "We were getting a lot of member feedback that indicated that the NSF fee was too high although competitively it doesn't appear to be. I decided to put that savings toward addressing the concerns of our members, which led to the lowering of the fee."

SMSE FCU serves the lower southeastern portion of Michigan. State and local government employees and their families are eligible for membership.
