FLINT, Mich. -- To offer a more practical understanding of wise money management, Security Federal Credit Union has teamed up with an organization to make it happen for children and adults.
The $243 million credit union has partnered with Standing on Solid Ground Inc., a Michigan-based nonprofit organization, to take part in a "Building Your Financial Future" program. The program is designed to help people gain a practical understanding of financial principles and the importance of using money wisely. Class topics will cover spending habits, identity theft, credit unions, budget basics, savings plans, goal-setting and understanding credit.
Susan Thomas, vice president of membership development at Security Federal, will teach classes on credit unions and how to prevent identity theft. There are separate classes for adults and for youth ages 12 and older, which are set to start in October.
Standing on Solid Ground provides job training and personal and career development services at little or no cost to individuals from all walks of life as they work toward achieving self-sufficiency, according to the organization.
