MIAMI, Fla. — Eastern Financial Florida Credit Union is helping the South Florida Boys' Choir offer hope to more disadvantaged children.

The Boys' Choir has proven successful in turning lives around for inner city youth since forming in 2001.

Eastern Financial has recently become the lead donor for the "Hope Through Harmony" project. In addition to a $25,000 donation the credit union is challenging other local corporations to step up and help.

Modeled after the famed Harlem Boys Choir, the South Florida Boys' Choir is a Monday-Friday after school program held at R.R. Moton Elementary School in South Miami Dade County. The program draws about 50, 4th through 9th graders from eight nearby elementary and middle schools. Each has some degree of artistic talent, but the music itself is really just a means to achieving a greater good according to Horace Turnbull, the program's project director.

The "Hope Through Harmony" project will reach out to families in two public housing projects–Arthur Mays and Perrine Gardens–with a goal of providing the after-school program right on site.
