KINGSTON, Jamaica — The University of the West Indies-Mona and Community Co-op Credit Union Limited recently donated $1.5 million to provide scholarships, bursaries and other assistance to financially needy students.

Nearly $750,000 of that amount was allocated for bursaries to 40 students who were successful in the recent Grade Six Achievement Test and whose parents are members of the credit union. Children of members as well as students at University of the West Indies and the University of Technology are also eligible for the monies.

The Principal's Scholarship Fund at the UWI and the UTI Needy Students Fund received $300,000 and $200,000 respectively. Another $150,000 was earmarked for the Ezra Lewis Scholarship, which is offered annually to members, their spouses or children attending the UWI, UTech or other accredited tertiary institutions.
