WASHINGTON — As part of its disaster preparedness efforts, CUNA has signed on to participate in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's National Preparedness Month 2006 Coalition.

"How quickly a credit union can get back to serving members after any disaster depends on emergency planning done today," CUNA President/CEO Dan Mica said. "National Preparedness Month is a time to reflect on recent disaster lessons learned and to focus on being prepared." CUNA is one of a number of national organizations to provide information and sponsor activities this month.

CUNA, the state leagues, and the National Credit Union Foundation established the Relief Effort and Support for Credit Unions (R.E.S.C.U.). Additionally, CUNA launched a free Credit Union National Emergency Information System at 877-CULOCATE this summer to help credit unions keep in touch with members during a disaster.
