University of Hawaii Federal Credit Union, Honolulu, was honoredby the Honolulu Chapter of Aloha United Way. The credit union washonored for 17 consecutive years of 100% staff participation aswell as continuously exceeding its yearly goals. In addition, itreceived two special awards, AUW's Spirit of Community Award,established to recognize and publicly thank Hawaii's donors whosecommitment through financial and in-kind support has enabled AUW tofurther its purpose, and AUW's Small Business/Big Heart Company ofthe Year. Human Resources team leader Gail Asuncion received AUW'shonor as the “Coordinator of the Year” for actively engaging thestaff to participate in creative fundraising activities. ServicePlus Credit Union, Riverside, Calif., presented its second annual“People Helping People” Award to University of California,Riverside, staff member Officer Mario Cortez, of the UCR PoliceDepartment. Officer Cortez was recognized for his exemplarycontributions to the community of Riverside. Cortez is director forthe state funded childcare center, El Centro de Ninos, and for thepast 10 years has been organizing the East Side Soccer Clinic. As arecipient of the People Helping People Award, Cortez received aCertificate of Excellence and $500 from Service Plus CU.
