I would like to weigh in on Paul Gentile’s Aug. 16 column entitled “Marketing Maven, Financial Wizard or Business Services Guru.” Paul gives some very nice insight into the need for boards to fill those upcoming top-dog jobs, but misses one very important fact that exists in our industry (or movement for those of you on that page).

First, let me make a very important comment that was briefly touched upon in the article concerning Teresa Freeborn, the new Xerox Federal Credit Union CEO. While she is the poster child for incredible marketing professionals, she is so very much more. I know her personally, have had the opportunity to work with her in the past, and I’m here to tell you that Xerox FCU hired a true financial professional…not just a marketer. This lady has it all, understands the industry, knows how to motivate a team, and is darn good at balance sheet and income statement stuff! I’m sure that the board knew they were getting the total package and were not just hiring someone who understood how to play the marketing game. Congratulations to XFCU for a fabulous choice!
