WASHINGTON — NAFCU announced last week that Congressman Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) has bravely agreed to address NAFCU's Congressional Caucus Sept. 17-20.

Due to his legislation to curb NCUA's authority over credit union conversions to mutual savings banks, the congressman received a polite, but pointed grilling from Caucus attendees last year. McHenry's bill was in response to the NCUA's challenges to two billion-dollar credit union conversions in Texas last year; the legislation is not expected to go any farther. Other speakers slated for Caucus include House Financial Services Chairman Mike Oxley (R-Ohio) and Ranking Member Barney Frank (D-Mass.), Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act sponsors Ed Royce (R-Calif.) and Paul Kanjorski (D-Pa.), Regulatory Relief Sponsor Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas); and House Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit Subcommittee Chairman Spencer Bachus (R-Ala.). All three NCUA Board members are also on the agenda as well as Treasury Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions Emil Henry. Political analyst Larry Sabato will deliver the keynote address. National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Reynolds will also speak.
