Each week Credit Union Times runs an opinion piece or two, typically on page 16 or 17. Opinion pieces are designed to give an expert in a particular area the opportunity to discuss an issue of importance to credit unions in a first-person written style. The author is encouraged to offer their opinion and let their knowledge shine through by writing in an authoritative style.
Opinion pieces are not meant to mimic news stories. Submitters often send in pieces that directly quote credit union leaders, such as a news story would. These quotes are stripped out or the piece is returned to the submitter for revision.
Opinion pieces also aren't meant to be case studies. Citing particular CUs and their statistical results is more appropriate for a news story written by a Credit Union Times' staffer.

One final tip: authors must query the editor on any submission for approval. The query can be delivered via e-mail to [email protected]. Opinions coincide with the special report topic of the week, so submitters should view the editorial calendar, which can be found at www.cutimes.com, to find out what topics are coming up. Querying approximately four weeks prior to the publication date is recommended.
