Memphis Area Teachers’ Credit Union, Memphis, Tenn., has awarded Andrea Crum, a teacher at South Park Elementary, with its One Class At A Time Grant. Crum was awarded the $500 grant with a surprise visit from MATCU’s Senior Vice President Judy Bell and Eyewitness News personalities Dee Griffin and Cameron Harper. With the money, Crum plans on hosting a mini-literacy workshop for parents of preschool students entering her classroom in the fall. The purpose of the workshop is to empower parents with knowledge and to encourage them to read to early learners. The grant will provide each family with their own mini-library of books to take home and will also pay for a translator to ensure parents from English limited households can fully participate in the workshop.
