I have enjoyed reading Paul Gentile's columns since he took this position and have found that we agree on many things, but none so much as on the need for industry consolidation. Where we might differ a bit is that I see the need for a virtual consolidation linked with the ubiquitous brand “Credit Union.”
Everyone knows that there are franchises in this world that are not owned by the parent company, but generally speaking you are conditioned to get the same service and they honor each other's products such as gift certificates.
It seems to me that our industry suffers from terminal “territory-itis.” What with our multiple charters and the inevitable concerns over survivorship of fiefdoms, whether they are management or boards or even the suppliers who like multiple clients, we seem to be swimming up stream. Gentile's column and the Credit Union Times help educate board members such as myself so keep it up! Michael Kzirian Vice Chairman Affinity Federal Credit Union Bedminster, N.J.
