DUBLIN, Ireland — Cyril Mann of Sterling, Alabama was recognized as not only the oldest man at the WOCCU conference in Dublin Ireland, but as a contributor to the development of the American credit union movement.

Mann in 1952 worked for Reynolds metals. At the time, outside the factory there were check cashing services and companies willing to loan employees money at extremely high rates. Mann and five other people got together and started a credit union to provide these services at a lower cost. Mann came to Dublin with his wife to see how the movement had progressed. World Council of Credit Unions First Vice Chairman Melvin Edwards commented on how the spirit of the credit union movement has continued. Mann is no longer actively involved with credit unions.
