WASHINGTON – Congressman Brian Bilbray (R-Calif.) just won a special election to the U.S. Congress and quickly signed on to co-sponsor the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act (H.R. 2317). Bilbray (R-Calif.) won a special election June 6-with heavy backing from CUNA's political action committee-and has already signed on as the 123rd lawmaker backing the bill. The bill would expand credit unions' business lending authorities and establish a risk-based capital framework. Bilbray won his seat after a tight special election to the seat vacated by former Congressman Randy Cunningham (R), who pleaded guilty to bribery.
