RIVERSIDE, Calif. – This year's Hemet/San Jacinto Valley Chamber of Commerce Olympus award ceremony traveled back thousands of years to ancient Greece.

Recipients were given awards with the names of popular ancient Greeks, which symbolized individual characteristics. The $781 million Altura Credit Union received the "Hermes" award for outstanding customer service. A son of Zeus in Greek mythology, Hermes was considered the "messenger of the gods" and presided over land travel, merchants, weights, athletics and literature.

According to chamber officials, the Greek theme was chosen for this year's award ceremony because the "gods" of Greek mythology were entrusted with watching over their citizens to ensure that communities thrived, much like the chamber seeks a balance of growth and financial prosperity in the communities it serves.

Altura was one of 11 businesses and individuals that received the awards. Recipients were compared to other Greeks such as Artemis, Hebe, Dionysus, Hestia, Demeter, Athene and Zeus. The venue was decorated like a Greek garden complete with pedestals, vine-draped columns, urns and topiaries.
