WASHINGTON – In a ceremony held at Credit Union House on Capitol Hill, the Virginia Credit Union League announced that it was endorsing the re-election of Senator George Allen (R-Va.).

"Senator Allen is a fierce advocate for working families and has long been a staunch supporter of the credit union movement," VCUL President Rick Pillow said. "We know Senator Allen shares our view that ordinary people should be trusted to make their own decisions, and credit unions are a shining example of that philosophy in action." Allen is expected to run for president in 2008. Credit unions are helping Virginians keep more of their own money by offering better rates on loans and savings, and far fewer fees, he stated. Credit unions in Virginia are saving each household using a credit union about $193 a year and nearly $800 for those primarily using credit union services. "In an election year in which the so-called `pocketbook' issues may well hold even greater significance for voters, we encourage the millions of credit union member-owners in Virginia to support Senator Allen, based on his strong record and support of issues critical to credit unions and their member-owners," Pillow said.
