ST. LOUIS – William R. Mapother, 68, passed away June 22 after a long fight with cancer and pulmonary fibrosis. He died in Evansville, Indiana en route to his home in Kentucky after an Alaskan cruise with his fiance, family, friends and business associates. Mapother was renowned in the credit union industry for his knowledge of bankruptcy law and collections. He specialized in helping credit unions employ policies and strategies to protect against bankruptcy and recover seemingly lost loans by using innovative collections techniques. He is the author of 13 books on bankruptcy. While Mapother was well known in credit union circles, he also consulted for some of the nation’s largest banks. He was a regular on the credit union conference scene and has spoken on creditors’ rights in all 50 states.
