I would like to thank Editor-in-Chief Paul Gentile for his kind mention in his June 14 column on former bankers being tapped for credit union CEO positions.
As a reformed banker, I didn't find it difficult to embrace the credit union mission, and I have promoted the industry to former colleagues who have grown disenchanted with the contention between serving customer and shareholder (and management) interests. At the same time, it's my observation that banks don't have a lock on talent, and that there are many exceptional executives within the credit union industry.
Another recent example of a new CEO selected from within the organization is Mark Spenny, who replaced the much-admired Eldon Arnold at CEFCU in Wisconsin. David Mooney President/CEO Alliant Credit Union Chicago, Ill.
