NEW ORLEANS – NCUA Vice Chairman Rodney Hood delivered the keynote speech at the Louisiana Credit Union League's Annual Meeting and Convention.

Hood closed out the conference June 17 with a talk on best practices and lessons learned from last year's hurricanes. "Credit unions across the state of Louisiana have survived one of the worst natural disasters in United States' history," he said. "This year's convention's theme of `Reflect…Recover…Rejoice!' is certainly appropriate. Louisiana credit unions should rejoice in the way they demonstrated the credit union spirit of helping one another as they collectively recovered from the hurricanes to serve their members."

Some of the best things credit unions can do for themselves to help cope with the next natural disaster is reviewing and updating continuity planning and record retention as well as looking at shared branching and promoting direct deposit. "With hurricane season already upon us, it is very important to discuss how credit unions can be best prepared," Hood stated.
