LENEXA, Kan. – Thanks to Credit Union of Johnson County 17-year old Alyssa Corcoran knows what it feels like to be a millionaire-at least for a day.

Corcoran, a longtime member, was the winner of the credit union's "Millionaire for a Day" event, which was part of National CU Youth Week. All credit union youth members who made deposits that week were entered into the "Millionaire for the Day" drawing. Corcoran's name was drawn as the winner from 2,000 entries.

The teenager received a one-day share certificate of deposit for $1 million and the interest accrued, about $125, was hers to keep.

In addition, as CU of Johnson County's new millionaire, Corcoran was interviewed as the city's "newest millionaire" on local radio station Star 102. Knowing that she is a huge Kelly Clarkson fan, the station also presented her with four free tickets to an upcoming Kelly Clarkson concert. Corcoran's celebrity treatment ended with the surprise arrival of two of her best girlfriends, who joined her for a limousine ride and private lunch courtesy of the Country Club Plaza.

"This event is a fun way to encourage our youth members to make smart money choices and to recognize the importance of savings," said Kathy Saunders, CU of Johnson County business development representative and coordinator of the credit union's youth savings program. "Credit Union of Johnson County supports financial education efforts for all of our members, as we believe positive money habits can start at any age."
