Paul Gentile's column regarding bankers pulling credit union strings in the June 7 issue was very interesting. Bankers have always maintained that credit unions do things they shouldn't. This includes opening accounts for everyone no matter what. We, as credit unions, have always denied that claim. We assure everyone that our members are only those eligible. However, also in the June 7 issue is a story on Kellog Community FCU winning an award for their billboard announcing that "Anyone Can Join"? There is not a disclaimer on the billboard regarding field of membership, counties, areas, etc. Now, there is a picture that I am sure the bankers will really enjoy.
